Established in 1998, the Global Nomads Group (GNG) is an international NGO that creates interactive educational programs for students about global issues. GNG's educational programs allow students to learn and discuss about subjects with their peers from around the world in live and facilitated sessions. Polycom has been chosen as the only designated video conferencing partner by GNG.
UAT is proud to support and facilitate the current education program in Hong Kong and work with both the GNG and Chinese International School Hong Kong. The CURRENTS is a joint project of Semester at Sea (SAS) and GNG. From September to December 2009, SAS will embark on its historic 100th voyage. During this exciting shipboard expedition, GNG and SAS will collaborate to produce a series of documentaries as well as live, open dialogue video conferences between schools in the United States and schools and cultural sites around the world. Nations involve will include Spain, Morocco, Ghana, South Africa, India, Vietnam, Hong Kong and China.
Students from Chinese International School, Hong Kong has linked up with one school in Texas, United States and one school in Sydney, Australia. They share their beliefs, values on globalization and to learn from one another. Interesting topics have been discussed between three schools, for example, the cultural differences, minority groups in different countries, people living under poverty line, etc. All students are impressed with the power of video conferencing because they can actually exchange ideas with another face-to-face as if there is no boundary. They get so excited at the end and are looking forward to do this again in the near future. |
